Form 3 - Montserrat project instructions NEW DATE!

I have given yu instructions for 2 assignments this week but be clear about what you have to do for both of them. You must also note that I have changed the date of submission for the Montserrat project. All of Form 3 will submit their projects on Monday 1st October (i know you have not got a lesson on that day).

1) The individual project is based on a volcanic eruption on the island of Montserrat. The instructions are as follows :

Your task is to produce a project which outlines the volcanic eruptions on the Caribbean Island of Montserrat. It will provide an assessment grade and it must include the following:
An introduction which outlines Montserrat’s location
What plates are involved in this area?
When and why did the volcano erupt?
What were the short term and long term effects?
What help did the islanders get from the ‘outside world’?
Plus any other information that you think is relevant
This project must be no longer than 5 pages. You will lose marks if it is longer. Make sure that the size of the font you are using is no larger than 14. Please do not copy and paste text – put information in your own words since you will achieve a much higher grade.

2) The second assignment is a group presentation during which you must cover the following:
The cause, effect and responses to an earthquake in a MEDC and LEDC. You choose the earthquakes but make sure that they are both recent so that it is a fair comparison. I will let you know the date that your presentation will take place next lesson but make sure that everyone has a job in your group and that you have detailed content and are innovative.

Form 4 homework

Your task as I mentioned in class to provide a synopsis or summary of a website article concerning China's one child policy. It should be completed for next lesson. Here is the link:

Form 2 homework - Using OS maps in Bembridge

Have a look at the following website page:

http://www.ordnancesurvey.co.uk/oswebsite/education/pdf/Mapreadingmadeeasy.pdf

It is a pdf file that has been produced in the UK by an organisation called Ordnance Survey. They produce maps on behalf of the UK Government.

You must first of all have a look at page 7 of the booklet. It shows a map of a part of the UK. You must answer the following questions:

1.Produce a paragraph which is no less than 5 sentences which describes the area. Think about the following in your paragraph:
a.PHYSICAL GEOGRAPHY (natural features of the area)
b.HUMAN GEOGRAPHY (man made features)
Try and picture yourself being in this place and the things that you would see.

2.Create 5 questions about the distance between 2 places on the map. Write down these questions and also provide the answers. For example, ‘What is the distance along the coastal footpath between Culver Down and the campsite at Peacock Hill Farm?’ ANSWER : 700 metres or 0.7 km. You may need to conduct some research because you may not recognise some of the map symbols.

3.What evidence is there that this can be dangerous place?

4.What do you think it would be like living in a place like this? Explain your reasons why you would/or would not like to live a place like this.

Good luck!
